Originates from or commonly found in
Congo, Gabon and Cameroon
Physical appearance
The Zebrawood tree is tall and straight, growing up to 120 feet tall. The tree trunk has a diameter of up to 3 feet. The flower has white petals and, as other legumes do, the tree produces pods. Zebrawood trees are covered by a thick bark. The tree’s sapwood is white. The heartwood is an attractive light yellow-brown with dark streaks.
Flooring Properties
Zebrawood has a tight grain striping that is straight and interlocked. This hardwood species has a coarse to medium texture. Zebrawood timber is reported to be fairly hard and very heavy. Although it is strong, working with machine tools or by hand does not require great strength. This hardwood species is relatively easy to saw but cross-cutting may produce rough surfaces. Zebrawood does darken with time and exposure to light, its straw, yellow-brown darkening to rich dark brown and the dark streaks deepening.
Janka Rating
Zebrawood has a hardness rating of 1575.
