Physical appearance
The White Oak tree typically grows to a height of 65-85 feet. The trunk has a diameter of 2-4 feet. The tree is covered by ashen-gray bark. The White Oak leaves are alternate, 5-9 inches long, 3-4 inches wide and oblong in shape. These leaves change color throughout the year. The tree’s sapwood is pale brown to white while the heartwood is darker but only light brown.
Flooring Properties
White Oak is known for its recognizable pattern of rays from an attractive tan to a golden brown. White oak is mostly straight-grained with a medium to coarse texture, with longer rays than Red Oak. This hardwood species is a hard and heavy wood with medium bending and crushing strength, is low in stiffness and very good in steam bending. Its attributes together give this wood great resistance to mileage and wear. White Oak is a hardwood species that darkens with sunlight exposure to deeper golden brown.
