Physical appearance

The White Ash tree grows to a height between 50 and 80 feet. The trunk’s diameter is between 2-4 feet. The tree’s appearance is characterized by a round-topped crown at maturity. When the tree blooms, leaf colors range from yellow to deep purple and maroon. The sapwood is light-colored brown or nearly white. The heartwood varies from grayish or light brown, to pale yellow streaked with brown.

Flooring Properties

White Ash is generally straight-grained with a coarse uniform texture, making it very similar to Red Oak. White Ash has good machining qualities, and it sands satisfactorily. When nailed, it has good holding ability, and it resists splitting. The wood also responds well to staining and preservative treatment. White Ash ambers with age from its pale cream color to a straw-tan.
