Physical appearance
The Sydney Blue Gum tree grows to a height between 90-150 feet. Its trunk has a diameter of 4-6 feet. The bark covering the true is smooth with a bluish hue. The sapwood is pale and easily differentiated from the dark pink and red brown core in the heartwood.
Flooring Properties
Sydney Blue Gum is dense hardwood with a distinctive color range that goes from dark, rich pink through to deep red-brown. A well-known timber found on the east coast of Australia, Sydney Blue Gum has a straight grain that is sometimes interlocked. Sydney Blue Gum works relatively easily with hand or power tools. This wood stains and finishes well. Gum pockets found inside the heartwood can make sawing difficult. Sydney Blue Gum undergoes a medium degree of color change, with a slight muting of the colors over time and darkening to a medium brownish red.
