West and Central Africa
Physical appearance
The Striped Ebony grows to a height between 30-40 feet. The trunk has a diameter of 2-3 feet. The sapwood is white, becoming bluish or reddish when cut. The heartwood is mostly black but features wide, wavy brown streaks.
Flooring Properties
Striped Ebony is a beautiful wood with tan-brown background with fine black striping. Striped Ebony has many of the same working characteristics of Mahogany. Working with Striped Ebony requires very sharp tools due to its hardness. Striped Ebony will darken over time from a golden brown to a darker brown under the black striping.
