Physical appearance
The Salinas Cherry tree is and evergreen and can grow up to 90 feet in height. Its trunk has a diameter of 2-4 feet, and emerges into a conical crown. Its bark is light gray and becomes fissured with age. The Salinas Cherry trees have thick, glossy green leaves. Trees of this genus also yield edible fruit.
Flooring Properties
Salinas Cherry is a brown, reddish hardwood that is extremely dense. It is noted as being difficult to machine in comparison to most wood species, and carbide-tipping is recommended for tools. This hardwood species does have good sanding properties. It has moderate steam bending qualities and turns well, and a strong finishing is highly recommended except using polyurethane. Even the finished product has coarse texture and a straight to interlocked grain. The Salinas Cherry wood’s slight luster can be improved with better finishing.
