Flooring Properties
Saddlewood is a large tropical hardwood species with a range throughout Central America. When freshly cut, its grain is bright yellow, darkening with exposure to a medium brown. Because it is durable and stable, but also very attractive, Saddlewood is recently being used for flooring as well as exterior construction. Working Saddlewood by machining or by hand shows it is a highly favorable hardwood species that responds well to gluing and use of fasteners. Using sharper cutting tools for planing, chiseling and turning will ensure better results, as tools can blunt during use.
Janka Rating
Saddlewood has a hardness rating of 1420.
