Physical appearance
The Red River Gum tree has an average height of 90 feet. The trunk has an average diameter of 6 feet. The tree has a large, dense crown of leaves. It has smooth bark, ranging in color from white and gray to red-brown which is shed in long ribbons. The sapwood of rose river gum is light brown while the heartwood ranges from pale pinkish to reddish brown.
Flooring Properties
The Red River Gum is a common and widespread tree along watercourses over much of mainland Australia. This hardwood species has a prominent, straight and interlocked grain. Red River Gum has a somewhat coarse and uniform texture. Red River Gum is not overly difficult to saw properly. This takes both nailing and gluing well. The wood accepts stain and paint well, and polishes to a quality finish.
