Flooring Properties
Patagonian Walnut is in the same family as Brazilian Walnut. It has a lighter brown color than Brazilian Walnut and features golden highlights. Patagonian Walnut is a dense hardwood and one of the most durable flooring materials. The wood saws and machine-works satisfactorily and finishes smoothly. It also offers more curled grain figure than Brazilian Walnut. Another important difference between the species is the number of alkalines in the chemical makeup of Patagonian Walnut. These alkalines interfere with drying, adhesion and staining. Using a water-based finishing product is the only way to be sure the finish will not discolor the wood.
