Physical appearance
The Patagonian Maple tree can grow up to 85-100 feet, with a trunk diameter from 2-4 feet. The Maple leaf has 4 or 5 petals. Maple flowers are green, yellow, orange or red. The Maple fruits are called samaras, and are known distinctively for their appearance similar to a helicopter when they fall.
Flooring Properties
Patagonian Maple is a dense, fairly heavy hardwood, long lasting and easy to work with. This wood features a bright texture, yellow reddish color and creamy tones. It is often used as a substitute for American Maple. Patagonian Maple has distinctive curled figures somewhat similar to the curly figures seen in American Maple. It works well, glues well and finishes very easily. This wood is also similar to American Maple in that it has medium photosensitivity and will amber with age.
