What are Listellos?
Listellos give the average homeowner the chance to explore and display their talent for creativity when it comes to floor covering decorations. This is so because you could take even the blandest style of floor coverings and create a pretty incredible piece of floor art design with the use of Listellos. Listellos are pieces of tile placed either within another pattern of tiles or used as a border against existing floor tiles to accentuate or liven up generic floor patterns. These pieces of Listello tiles add a unique, distinctive look to present floor coverings as well as increase the value of your home by creating a design statement that demands recognition and won‘t easily be forgotten.
What sizes and shapes do listellos come in?
Listello tiles come in a variety of shapes, sizes, textures and colors and are usually made with materials such as granite, marble, slate, travertine, glass and porcelain. Maybe you would like to provide a contrast of color to your floor covering or an interesting decoration along the edge of a room. Listellos are perfect for this type of look and they can also add either bold emphasis or quiet grace to a room simply by the choice of color and design. Another interesting thing that you can do with Listellos is that you can create the illusion of depth within the floor covering pattern by the use of certain tile colors. Warm colors give the appearance that the tile is projecting, while dark colors appear to recede.
How to install listellos?
To install Listellos, simply adjust the field or trim tile layout to fit the tile pieces. Fill the channel with quick-setting/self-leveling cement, being sure to leave enough room for thinset mortar and the Listellos. Allow enough time for the self-leveler to cure and then lay out the dry Listellos making sure that all the pieces fit. Then pull up the Listellos in the order that there were placed and apply the thinset mortar to the self-leveler. Next, replace the Listellos into the mortar and carefully beat them in while keeping them straight in alignment. The final step includes grouting the Listellos and sealing the installation.
Care and Maintenance for Listellos.
The care and maintenance of Listellos will vary depending upon the material used in their construction. For example, porcelain tiles require the use of cleaning products that do not contain any oil, acids or soaps. Ceramic tiles usually require little or no maintenance and marble, stone and granite may require occasional grouting and light cleaning with special products. Do not attempt to use regular household cleaning products on marble, stone or Granite Tile. They can cause stains and other damage to them. Manufacture’s guides are a great source of help with regard to the care of Listellos.
