Flooring for your kitchen, den, playroom or dining room.

When you are considering replacing the flooring in the kitchen, den, playroom or dining room of your home, durability and ease of cleaning just has to be considered. These are the most highly trafficked areas in your house, and with children in the family, they have to safe and comfortable to sit and often play on, as well.

Flooring for a playroom.

In a playroom, children want to spread out, use their imaginations, and have fun playing with toys of all kinds. Although a cushioned surface could be ideal to protect toddlers and smaller children from a few bumps and bruises, carpeting is not conducive to playing with small metal cars or other wheeled toys. Hardwood or durable laminate, with a few soft (but non-slippery) rugs scattered in areas, might be the ideal flooring to use. If you really want carpeting then Berber is a close and dense pile that may work out for your family’s needs in the playroom. Another surface that can be considered for there, is linoleum. Today’s lino is not your 1950s lino. It is often made from green materials and can also be partially made from recycled components as well. With the variety of colors and textures available, linoleum is a great choice for a playroom. You can also make a rug from linoleum by just cutting a piece to size. And, it is so easy to keep clean.

Flooring for a dining room.

Dining rooms can have flooring that is hardwood, ceramic or other tiles such as natural stone, linoleum or laminate. You may have purchased a home with carpeting in the dining room and that may be a hotbed of germs, considering how many times children drop food on the floor. Rip that stuff out of there! Hardwood may be the best surface as it is easy to brush away any dirt then lightly mop if anything is spilled on it. And again, linoleum is probably the easiest material to keep clean, although some homeowners still shy away from the flooring because of its 1950s association and green and blue and yellow colors. Ceramic tiles are a good choice but the grout has to be well sealed, as well as the surface of the tiles. If this is not done, stains could be very hard to get rid of.

Flooring for a den.

Dens are a place to be cozy and relax, and either read or watch television. Probably the most popular flooring for dens is real hardwood with a lovely Persian or other ethnic rug laid down in several places, depending on the size of your room. Dens can be in a traditional style with dark hardwood floors or light and modern with oak or other wood flooring.

Flooring for a kitchen.

Kitchens are subject to all kinds of spills and stains so they need to have the most durable and stain resistant flooring in your entire house. Most popular choices for kitchens are natural stone tiles (sealed well), ceramic tiles (sealed well), hardwood, and the new style linoleum. With the latter you can design a retro décor and it would fit right in, and lino seems to be almost indestructible. Between hardwood or laminate -- the choice can be difficult. Some people consider laminate to show wear a bit more than hardwood, and with hardwood, any dings or scrapes just serve to make it look more antique or distressed. With laminate, it just looks scruffy if there is a lot of wear. In any case, whatever you choose there are many flooring options for the most popular rooms in your home.
