Gymnasium Flooring
What are gym floors made of?
Gymnasium Flooring requires a special type of flooring. Although there are still many wood gym floors in use, many new gymnasiums are being constructed with a synthetic material known as Polyurethane. It is seamless and water resistant as well as comfortable to the feet when engaging in sports activities. This material is practical for the reasons of low maintenance and easy cleaning. It resists spike damage and usually holds a life of about 20 years.
How do you install a gym floor?
Installation for gyms floors require special techniques because it is critical that the floor remains level throughout its life. Otherwise, a gym floor that is not level is useless for the purposes that it was intended for. Imagine dribbling a basketball ball on a gym floor that is not level. Actually, the opposing team would probably love this fault in the floor, because stealing the ball would be like taking candy from a baby.
What is used to made a gym floor?
Some gymnasium floors consist of interlocking virgin rubber that is very easy to install. Some others use a snap together wood or tile that is quick to install. More permanent types of gym floors may use a vinyl court flooring that is seamless and includes cushioning within the surface. Diamond plate tiles and carpet tiles may work well in exercise gyms, but they may not be durable enough for school gymnasiums.
