Does Greener Living Mean Being A Martian?

Eco-friendly and greener living

No, because greener living is more to do with your way of life than who you are. Although Martians may be very nice people (or microbes, depending upon your way of thinking), then unless they reuse, recycle and renew, they do not subscribe to greener living. When you recycle wood for use in your home's flooring, or reuse a piece of furniture, or use natural or organic products such as cottons or bamboo for your flooring, then you are practicing greener living. Greener living also means that as you consume, you try and make minimal impact on the environment. You are aware of your carbon footprint, drink water from a washable and reusable container, consume in much smaller amounts, and you are aware of where the things you consume, come from. Being aware of all living beings (well, at least the ones that impact you) and their environment, how they live, and if they are animals or plants, how they are raised for your use, then you are practicing greener living. Everything helps and as much as you can do, will help even more.

What You Can Do To Live Greener

Just being aware of your surroundings and the animals, plants an people who inhabit the earth and recycling, may be the two biggest things that a single person can do in order to live "greener". Probably the more single ingredient or at least simple ingredients things we can use and consume contain, the better off our health and environment will be. Food that comes to us unprocessed, or without chemical additives in materials that we use on our bodies and in our homes, is better for us anyway. If we can implement solar heating and power into our homes, gray water usage or rainwater usage, separate recyclables and make sure they get to the proper destination, install a tank-less water heater and lots of those energy efficient curly bulbs, use a gas saving or electric or hybrid car or a bicycle instead, use renewable flooring resources such as non-rainforest wood for our floors or infinitely renewable and fast growing giant bamboo, then we will all impact our world tremendously.

Greener Living For The Future

What we do today, affects future generations. Many of us have learned that, at least. There is so much off-gassing from household items such as some paints and flooring and in the manufacture of same, that reduction of toxics in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the products we consume, must be priority for our future. There was a wonderful animated film out last year about a little recycling robot left on earth to keep making cubes out of all of the garbage. People had left the earth hundreds of years previously. He fell in love with another little robot who found one plant seedling and took it back to her mother ship, circling the earth. Love prevailed and when people decided to go back to earth and repopulate, plants started to grow again and the human race became healthier from lessons learned in the past. With the human race's collective intelligence, we should be able to stop the buildup of greenhouse gases, and we should be able to save the earth for ourselves, and future generations.
