Green flooring types
From Floor Coverings
From recycled glass tiles to rubber flooring to even stone flooring, Eco-Friendly flooring is taking over the flooring market by storm. These flooring options also known as green flooring are made to protect the environment. Using tree flooring is damaging our forest causing a rippling effect on the rest of our world. Did you know that it takes 15-100 years for a tree to reach the maturity so that it can be produced into your hardwood floor? Green flooring has also proven to be healthier and safer for your family because they stay away from using chemicals in the flooring compared to that of most traditional flooring options.
There are many different options when it comes to choosing your Eco-friendly flooring here are a few:
- Recycled Hardwoods simply means using tree wood that has been harvested already, saving new trees from being destroyed. Typically the recycled wood comes from old homes or when people reinstall flooring and recycle the old instead of building up our landfills.
- Bamboo is quite different than trees. For the simple fact that it is not a tree rather it is a rapid growing grass. Bamboo can be harvested approximately every 5 to 7 years which is a dramatic difference from trees. These floors are harvested then cut down into strips and after the manufacturing process the outcome is a beautiful, durable, exotic floor that is safe for your family and the environment.
- Without hurting or damaging trees, cork is made from the bark of living trees therefore making it another Eco friendly choice for your home. This process also has the effect of stimulating the growth of the trees.
- From broken glasses to old beer and wine bottles, recycled glass flooring adds an extraordinary element to any space. The recycling process causes an bubbling effect on the glass and makes for a wonderful visual effect that you cant get anywhere else.
- This style of green flooring is produced from a number of natural products including pine resin, ground limestone and linseed. This is a great option because it is biodegradable and does not release toxic fumes that could harm your family and friends.
- Also being biodegradable these floors make the third world countries able to take advantage of the natural resources and make these floors from sea grass, sisal and jute.
- From shredded tires manufacturers use these to produce rubber carpet padding and flooring. Our landfills are filled with a drastic number of tires but 7.5 tires produces 100 square feet of flooring. This saves our environment for this non biodegradable product.
