What is a cleanroom?
It is a space where products are made, that has to be free from debris, dust and dirt (plus germs). A lot of space technology is manufactured in cleanrooms. Pharmaceuticals are often made there also. These are two things where contamination is a definite no no. There are set standards for the air in cleanrooms and total environmental control has to be exercised. Once the cleanroom is established, it has to be maintained to high standards.
Cleanroom flooring options
Rubber or vinyl with static control seems to work the best. There are also elastic Polyurethane mats available. Some floor coverings for cleanrooms have a tacky surface, which grabs dust and dirt off of shoe soles. Some mats contain an antimicrobial germicide and some have sticky backs so they stay in place on cleanroom floors. There are also ergo mats, which are anti-fatigue mats where people can stand for extended periods of time. Matrix raised access flooring is used in some cleanrooms. It consists of high strength, raised tiles made from die-cast aluminum. The matrix in the tiles makes them supportive and strong.
What do I have to wear in a clean room?
Of course, the cleaning of the cleanroom flooring itself is of paramount importance. Supplies for cleaning should be ordered from special companies who know what works, and doesn't leave any contaminants in the supposedly newly cleaned cleanroom. Raised floor panels are used in cleanrooms, where the raised surface provides more traction. Heat welded floor coverings are also used for CleanRoom Flooring. Ideal cleanroom flooring should be antimagnetic and lightweight, corrosion resistant and cost effective. Shoe coverings often worn to guard against germs being tracked into the cleanroom, can fall off and stick to the cleanroom flooring, which is often made to trap germs but nothing else. Supplies used and worn in a cleanroom have to be to strict standards and not contribute to contamination.
Cleaning and Maintenance
When setting up and maintaining a cleanroom, coordination of equipment and supplies is necessary. Good cleanroom flooring cannot do it all by itself. And is your cleanroom a very strictly to standards one or just a room that has to be clean? If the latter, then a great washable vinyl floor could be the answer. If a strict cleanroom in all senses of the word. then everything in the cleanroom, including the floor, must be free of gasses which can be emitted. They, in themselves, are a contaminant. There are specialized cleanroom designs to suit every purpose. And for every cleanroom there is proper flooring, supplies, clothing for people to wear and equipment that is suitable for the sterile environment. Many manufacturers can provide areas of expertise to help anyone wanting to start a cleanroom in their company (or several of course). This is a special area that warrants study in all aspects, including important CleanRoom Flooring.
