Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia
Physical appearance
The Andean Mahogany tree grows quickly, reaching a height of 100 feet. Its trunk has a diameter of 6 feet. It is an evergreen, with bigger leaves than other Mahogany, but still small in comparison to most. The fruits are woody and capsule shaped. The bark has a rich brown color while the heartwood is pinkish.
Flooring Properties
Andean Mahogany is a highly figured wood with pronounced black striping. Andean Mahogany is much harder than red oak, making it a suitable material for hardwood flooring. However it still has excellent workability and is durable after its finishing. The finished flooring is reddish brown with steaks of black. It will darken and redden as it ages.
